Calcium D-Glucarate

New research is coming out that links glucarate, a non-toxic substance produced in the body and certain fruits and vegetables, to cancer prevention. Glucarate plays a leading role in the process of glucuronidation,

the body’s way of ridding itself of potentially harmful carcinogens. Glucarate binds harmful toxins, carcinogens, and excess estrogen together so the body can excrete them. Adding a supplement of calcium glucarate to your diet may help you fight cancer, and may be especially beneficial in breast cancer.

Recent studies with calcium glucarate have had positive results. When glucarate was added to the diet of rats which had been genetically bred to develop mammmary tumors, there was a 70 percent reduction in how many formed any tumors. Those that did form tumors had a 73 percent reduction in the number they formed.

Sufficient amounts of calcium glucarate can be found in a healthful diet. This nutrient is quite high in apples, grapes, and grapefruit, as well as bean sprouts, lettuce, and cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower. However, few people eat the five servings of fruits and vegetables a day they need to supply an adequate amount, and that’s when a supplement makes the perfect additional choice.

Calcium glucarate can be used in tandem with antioxidants like citrus bioflavonoids, and has, to date, demonstrated no toxicity or side effects, even when taken in high doses. For the woman who has a number of risk factors in her life for breast cancer, a supplement of calcium glucarate can be a big part of the main line of defense in her ongoing fight.

What is Detoxification?

Our bodies are exposed to harmful substances every day. As these substances, or toxins, collect inside of us, a natural process called detoxification takes place, helping to remove these potentially damaging compounds. D-Glucarate has been shown to nutritionally support detoxification. Various industrial and environmental chemicals, asbestos, and UV radiation, are known to cause cancer. Also called carcinogens, these agents have been shown to cause cell damage in our bodies, some damaging cell DNA.

How does my body detoxify itself?

There are two primary means by which the body detoxifies itself. One involves complex chemical reactions, by which the body combines toxins and carcinogens with water soluble substances, thus making them more easily removable through the urinary and intestinal systems. This process is called glucuronidation. The second neutralizes free radicals, potentially harmful compounds created as a byproduct of our bodies' use of oxygen. D-Glucarate has been shown to nutritionally support glucuronidation.

What is Glucuronidation?

Glucuronidation is one of the major detoxification pathways in our bodies. It is a chemical reaction where the body combines a water soluble substance in the body with a toxin or carcinogen and removes it from the body. Several carcinogens are known to be removed from the body by glucuronidation:

  • Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons
  • Various Nitrosamines
  • Fungal toxins
  • Tumor Promoters, including steroid hormones
  • Aromatic amines

Most chemical reactions in the body are reversible. There is an enzyme (B-glucuronidase) in the body that reverses glucuronidation. Thus, those harmful compounds that would normally be bound to inert molecules to be removed from the body are permitted to go free, potentially causing damage to the cells. D-Glucarate has been shown to inhibit the enzyme responsible for reversing glucuronidation, improving the likelihood that normal detoxification processes may continue.

Protecting your body with Calcium D-Glucarate™

At the University of Texas' M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and other research facilities, repeated studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of D-Glucarate in the inhibition of cancer development in laboratory animals. When taken orally, it has been shown to inhibit the enzyme responsible for reversing glucuronidation. This means that the body is more likely to rid itself of carcinogens.

D-Glucarate has potential as an anti-carcinogenic compound in several respects:

  • It is nontoxic when administered orally
  • It nutritionally supports the body's detoxification process for carcinogens
  • It is more easily absorbed into the body systems

Calcium D-Glucarate Fights Back

D-Glucarate has been shown to inhibit the enzymes responsible for reversing glucuronidation. Laboratory studies have shown that D-Glucarate inhibits cancer during all three stages of the disease: initiation, promotion, and progression. For this reason, among others, D-Glucarate is a positive agent for reducing the risk of cancer, including:

  • Breast cancer
  • Lung cancer
  • Colon cancer
  • Liver cancer
  • Bladder cancer
  • Skin cancer
  • Prostate cancer

The results of various laboratory studies on D-Glucarate's beneficial effects in different types of cancer suggest that it is useful for treatment and risk reduction of these cancers. Since it has no known side effects when ingested in moderate doses, its use as a supplement may be ideal for people at risk for cancer.

Is Calcium D-Glucarate Safe?

Compounds found in D-Glucarate occur naturally in foods that you eat every day such as apples, grapefruit, broccoli, and cherries. Long term laboratory studies report no toxic effects at dosages of 0.5 to 10 percent of the diet. A review of all studies to date have revealed only beneficial effects. In trials with the National Cancer Institute, D-Glucarate administered to women at high risk for breast cancer have shown no evidence of toxicity, even at very high dosages of 10 grams per day. Additionally, no side effects have been reported.

It may be important to supplement your diet with D-Glucarate, and consume adequate amounts of fruits, vegetables.
